Ahsan Habib appointed new NBR chairman

The government has appointed Ahsan Habib as the new chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), replacing Md Abdur Rahman Khan. A notification announcing the appointment was issued on Monday.

Ahsan Habib previously served as an NBR member and Director General of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC). A member of the 15th BCS (Taxation) cadre, he graduated first class first from the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka and also secured the top position in his BCS batch.

He earlier served as Commissioner of Tax Zone-15. As CIC Director General, he led several high-profile investigations into tax evasion and financial irregularities and played a key role in efforts to recover unpaid taxes from the online gambling platform UlkaGames.

Ahsan Habib is currently serving as president of the BCS Taxation Association.
