Former education minister Dr Dipu Moni, 61, fell ill at Munshiganj District Jail on Monday and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) before being sent back to jail later in the day.
Jail Superintendent Muhammad Enayet Ullah said Dipu Moni complained of feeling unwell around 1:30am and was first taken to Munshiganj General Hospital. As doctors felt she needed better treatment, she was moved to DMCH's emergency department around 6:00am on jail authorities' instructions.
ASI Md Fazlu of police, who escorted her, said she reached DMCH around 8:15am and was treated at the medicine department of the hospital's new building.
Dr Md Ariphuzzaman, superintendent of Munshiganj General Hospital, said Dipu Moni suffers from kidney, thyroid and allergy-related ailments, adding that her condition was not highly alarming.
Md Rajib Mia, second officer of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, said she was brought back to Munshiganj jail around noon after primary treatment, as no bed was available at DMCH.
