DINAJPUR, July 1: Authorities of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur have taken disciplinary action against 66 students over a violent clash, vandalism, and violations of university discipline. Six of them have been permanently expelled.

A copy of an official order in this regard, signed by the university registrar, was posted on the university notice board on Wednesday.

The action follows an investigation into a clash that took place on May 21.

According to the order, the clash between students of Nur Hossain Hall and Abrar Fahad Hall resulted in damage to university property and disrupted the academic environment. An investigation committee was formed to probe the incident.

After reviewing the investigation report, the university’s 84th special syndicate meeting decided to impose the disciplinary action. Based on the nature of the offences, the students were divided into four categories and punished accordingly.

Additionally, six students accused of attacking Assistant Proctor Md Mobinul Islam while he was performing official duties have been permanently expelled from the university.

University Proctor Professor Dr Nausher One said the punishments were imposed based on the findings of the investigation committee and that the accused students were given an opportunity to present their defence.

On May 21, students of Nur Hossain Hall and Abrar Fahad Hall were involved in a violent clash, during which several rooms in both halls were vandalised, creating tension across the campus.

Assistant Proctor and Assistant Professor of the Department of Plant Pathology Md Mobinul Islam was assaulted while trying to stop the violence.
