Girl, aunt killed in Madaripur road mishap

 
MADARIPUR, July 3: A nine-year-old girl and her aunt were killed while four others were injured, two of them critically, after a covered van hit an easy-bike in Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur on Friday afternoon.

The accident took place in the Jhenairgate area under the Upazila.
According to family members and eyewitnesses, Ayesha, 9, and her aunt, Rimi Akter, both from Madbar Kandi village, were travelling in an easy-bike with other relatives to attend a wedding ceremony at a relative's house in neighbouring Kadirpur Village.

When the vehicle reached the Jhenairgate area, a speeding covered van rammed the easy-bike from behind, leaving Ayesha and Rimi dead on the spot.

Four other passengers sustained injuries in the crash. Locals rescued them and took them to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors said two of the injured were in critical condition.
