
NOAKHALI, July 3: The Department of Social Work at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) organised its Sports Week 2026, with the final matches and prize-giving ceremony held at the university's central playground on Thursday afternoon.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Golam Rabbani attended the event as the chief guest.
Addressing the programme, the vice-chancellor said it was the first sports and prize distribution ceremony he had attended since assuming office. Recalling his long-standing interest in sports since his student days, he said the university administration is working continuously to improve sports facilities, nurture students' talents, and create a sports-friendly campus environment.
He said sporting events play a vital role in the physical and mental development of students and help foster teamwork, discipline and healthy competition. Congratulating the organisers on successfully arranging the event, he urged all stakeholders to work together to further promote sports and enhance the university's sporting culture.
Among the special guests were Prof Dr Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of NSTU, Prof Dr Rabiul Islam and Prof Dr Hafiz Uddin Bhuiya of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at the University of Dhaka.
The programme was chaired by Sifat-E-Mannan, chairman of the Department of Social Work. Teachers, students, athletes and journalists were also present.
Students from different batches of the department took part in the week-long competition.
The men's events included cricket, football, sack race, balance challenge and chess, while the women's competitions featured cricket, Ludo, needle-and-thread race and marble race. A Ludo competition was also organised for teachers.
At the end of the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Golam Rabbani distributed prizes among the champions and runners-up of the various events.
