BGB foils BSF push-in attempt at Moulvibazar border

MOULVIBAZAR, July 4: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday foiled an alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push 10 people into Bangladesh through the Kachurgul border in Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar.

The incident took place in the early hours of the day at the Kachurgul border, BGB officials said.

BGB sources said BSF personnel allegedly tried to force the group across the border into Bangladesh. 

Acting on the information, BGB members, with assistance from local residents, intercepted the group before they could enter further into Bangladeshi territory.

The detained group comprised two men, seven women and a child, officials said.

After verifying their identities, BGB sent them back to India through another border point, according to the border force.

Lieutenant Colonel Ataur Rahman, commanding officer of the 52 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident.

"The BSF attempted to push 10 people into Bangladesh early Thursday, but the attempt was thwarted due to BGB's firm stance," he said.

He said BGB personnel detained the group and later returned them to India through a separate border point after completing the necessary verification process.

Ataur Rahman added that BGB has stepped up surveillance along the frontier to prevent any further push-in attempts.

"Border patrols have been intensified round the clock, and security measures have been strengthened to prevent such incidents," he said.

The border force said it remains on high alert and will continue taking necessary measures to safeguard the country's borders.
