BAUPHAL, PATUAKHALI, July 5: Patients at Bauphal Upazila Health Complex in Patuakhali are facing severe inconvenience as motorcycles are being parked inside the hospital premises, triggering anger among patients and their attendants.
Sources said motorcycles are regularly parked beside the stairs leading to the indoor unit on the second floor, in front of the Community Vision Centre.
Hospital staff members and pharmaceutical representatives reportedly use the space for parking on a daily basis.
Due to the obstruction, patients seeking services at the Community Vision Centre, Family Planning Clinic and TB unit are facing difficulties. Food distribution from the hospital kitchen is also being disrupted.
Although a separate shed exists for parking within the hospital compound, some pharmaceutical representatives and staff members continue to park motorcycles inside the facility, causing repeated inconvenience to patients and visitors.
Several hospital employees, requesting anonymity, said the issue persists despite the availability of designated parking space outside the hospital building.
A tuberculosis patient, Rokeya Begum, said motorcycles have blocked access inside the facility. “We cannot even enter properly. The smoke from the motorcycles is also making breathing difficult,” she said.
Another patient, Israat, said many people wait in queues at the Family Planning Clinic, but there is no space to sit or stand due to parked motorcycles. “This situation should be resolved immediately,” she added.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Abdur Rouf said action would be taken soon.
“We will ensure that motorcycles are no longer allowed inside the hospital premises,” he said.
