A 19-year allegedly committed suicide being unable to bear the loss of his favorite team Brazil in the World Cup 2026.
The victim, Ratan, took his life at around 11:00am on Monday, July 6, 2026, in Ghoraighat area of Kaya Union in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia.

He was son of Hossain Ali Mistry of Ghoraighat area of Kaya Union and was a laborer by profession. He was married and has a two-month-old daughter.

According to police and local sources, Ratan’s favorite team Brazil lost in the match between Brazil and Norway on Sunday night.

He suffered a mental breakdown due to the defeat of his favorite team and the negative trolling of the opposing football team’s fans. Later, he went to his bedroom and committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope from his resident’s ceiling.

The deceased’s father said that Ratan fell asleep after watching the match at night. At around 11:00am, when he did not respond, the door of the house was broken open and he was found hanging from a rope. He was later rescued and taken to a local hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Kumarkhali Police Station OC (Investigation) Amirul Islam said that Ratan was a die-hard supporter of the Brazilian football team. It is initially confirmed that he committed suicide after his team lost and could not bear the emotion of the defeat.
