3 killed in UPDF-JSS ‘gunfight’

KHAGRACHHARI, July 6: Three people were killed in a reported gunfight between the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-Main) and the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS-Main) in Panchari upazila of Khagrachhari on Monday.

Panchari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ferdous Wahid said the two rival groups exchanged gunfire over local dominance, leaving three people dead.

"The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed. A police team has gone to the scene to recover the bodies," he said.

The OC said the recovery operation was taking longer than usual because the incident occurred in a remote area.

Police were also trying to ascertain the identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the gunfight.

No statement was immediately available from either UPDF (Main) or JSS (Main) regarding the incident.
