Flood travel warning and special safety guidelines have been issued by Sunamganj district administration for transporting tourists in the haor areas of Sunamganj. This measure has been taken to ensure the safety of the tourists’ lives amid the ongoing flood situation.
A notice issued on Thursday (July 9) by the district administration informed, water levels of Surma and other rivers across the district are rising continuously due to heavy rainfall in Sunamganj and Cherrapunji of India. Considering the situation, houseboat owners, drivers, and others concerned have been directed to transport tourists only after ensuring full safety, until further notice.
Notice cited that no tourists can make trips under adverse weather or risky conditions. Every houseboat must carry adequate numbers of quality life jackets, lifebuoys, and other emergency safety equipment. Passenger overloading is strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, authorities are advised to monitor alerts from Meteorological Department, Water Development Board, and local administration. Safety instructions must be briefed to tourists before starting a journey. Instructions from district administration and law enforcement agencies must be followed strictly. House operations could be temporary suspended if situation deteriorates further.
