Prisoner flees Khulna Jail

KHULNA, July 10: An under trial prisoner escaped from Khulna District Jail-2 on Thursday afternoon by scaling the prison’s boundary wall, prompting a massive search operation by prison authorities and law enforcement agencies.

The escaped prisoner is Emon Majhi, 25, son of Abdul Majhi, a tenant of Jia Mia’s house in the Sachebunia Sekelar Bottola area under Labanchara Police Station (PS).

According to prison records, Emon Majhi had been in custody since June 13, 2026, in connection with a theft case filed with Sonadanga PS.

Khulna Jail Superintendent Abu Sayem said he was informed immediately after the incident and initiated an inquiry.
He said CCTV footage showed Emon talking with other inmates before suddenly jumping onto the eastern boundary wall and escaping.

He added that the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons, Khulna, had been instructed to investigate the incident and recommend further action. A case is being prepared over the incident.
