MADARIPUR, July 12: A female accused and detained at Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station (PS) has escaped early Friday. Following the incident, a sub-inspector (SI) and a constable have been withdrawn and closed to the police lines for negligence of duty on Friday night.
Madaripur Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Habibur Rahman confirmed the matter on the same night. The escaped woman is Hasina Begum, 35, daughter of Habib Hawlader of Thantali area under Madaripur Municipality and wife of Al-Amin of Kalaimara area of Jhaudi Union in Sadar Upazila.
Police said that SI Moksedur Rahman of Iterpul police outpost arrested Hasina Begum on Thursday night on charge of involvement in anti-social activities. Later, she was handed over to Madaripur Sadar Model PS which is being temporarily operated on the ground floor of the OC’s residence. Hasina was kept in police custody in a room on the balcony and she escaped from there. The OC (Duty Officer) Ramzan Ali Sajal and a constable were withdrawn and closed to the police lines in this incident.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe committee headed by Additional SP Fariha Rafiq Bhabna was formed on Friday night, which was asked to submit report within the next three working days.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar PS Abul Kalam Azad refused to talk about this to the journalists.
