The announcement was made around 3:00 pm on Tuesday by protesting students in Uttara. They also issued an ultimatum, demanding the minister resign by Tuesday night before leaving the road in front of the BNS Centre in Uttara.
Meanwhile, protesters continued demonstrations on the University of Dhaka (DU) campus over the same demand. Police attempted to control the situation as both sides remained in a face-off, while members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed on the campus.
At the time of reporting, protesters were occupying the road between Nilkhet and TSC, with police positioned opposite them. Activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were also present nearby.
The protests began after students from several colleges blocked the Science Lab intersection for about an hour on Monday, protesting the continuation of the HSC examinations despite heavy rainfall and widespread waterlogging. They later marched towards the DU campus before taking position on the Nilkhet-TSC road after being dispersed by police near the VC Chattar.
