
Separate preparatory meetings to observe 'July Martyrs’ Day' successfully were held in Feni, Khulna and Rajbari districts on Tuesday.
FENI: The district administration has taken extensive preparations to observe July Martyrs' Day and July Uprising Day, with a series of programmes, including a reception for the families of those killed during the July uprising and those injured in the movement.
The decisions were announced at a preparatory meeting held at the Feni Deputy Commissioner (DC)'s office on Tuesday.
Presiding over the meeting, DC Monira Haque said the district administration intended to observe the commemorations with due importance.
"Alongside the central programmes, we are planning several local and innovative initiatives," she said, adding that recitation, essay-writing and painting competitions had already begun as part of the observance.
Officials at the meeting said families of those killed in the July uprising and those injured in the movement would be formally honoured on August 5.
The administration also plans to name a roundabout at Temuhani on the Feni-Noakhali regional highway "Shihab Roundabout" in memory of July movement martyr Wakil Ahmed Shihab.
In addition, authorities will restore graffiti related to the July uprising that have faded or disappeared in Sonagazi.
The meeting, moderated by Additional DC (General) Mohammad Al Amin Sarkar, was attended by Deputy Director (DD) of the Local Government Division Md Didarul Alam, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Mahfuza Matin, DD of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Mohammad Atik Ullah, and Feni Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sultana Nasrin Kanta, among others.

Representatives of the families of those killed and injured in the July movement also attended the meeting, including Nesar Ahmed, father of martyr Ishtiaq Ahmed Shraban; Shahidul Islam, elder brother of martyr Saidul Islam Shahi; and injured participants Abu Zafar and Gazi Aman Uddin.
Participants, including political leaders and members of the martyrs' families, welcomed the district administration's initiatives and pledged to help ensure the programmes' success.
KHULNA: The meeting here was held with DC Hoore Jannat in the chair.
It was informed in the meeting that wreaths will be placed at the Martyrs’ Memorial at Shibbari intersection at 9 am on July 16. A discussion meeting and prayer session will be held at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium at 10 am.
Special prayers will also be offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship. Educational institutions across the district will arrange discussions and prayer programmes to mark the day.
Among others, Additional DC (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal, Additional District Magistrate Nurul Hai Mohammad Anas, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sheikh Imran, the parents of martyred Sakib Raihan, officials of different government departments, members of martyrs’ families, representatives of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and leaders of different political parties attended the meeting.
RAJBARI: The meeting here was held in the DC office conference room chaired by DC Afroza Parveen, while ASP Shamsul Haque, District Civil Surgeon Dr S M Masud, Deputy Director of Local Government Department Kalyan Chowdhury, Additional DC Tarif ul Hasan, District BNP Joint Convener Gazi Ahsan Habib, District Information Officer Rekha Islam and Rajbari Press Club President Kazi Abdul Quddus also spoke. Assistant Commissioner S M Raihanul Islam conducted the meeting.
The programmes include laying wreaths at the graves of the July martyrs, visiting the graves, offering prayers and supplications, and holding a discussion meeting in the conference room of the DC office.
