Home affairs ministry sticker used on car carrying Yaba, three arrested in Cox's Bazar
Three alleged drug traffickers were arrested after officials of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) seized 6,000 Yaba tablets from a private car bearing a Home Affairs Ministry sticker in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday morning.
The arrests were made around 7:30 am during a special anti-narcotics operation on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway in the Ramu Rubber Garden area.
The detainees were identified as Sabbir Hossain, 36, of Shalukia area under Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla; Sima Islam, 22, of Paschim Naora in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj; and Urmi Akter Usha, 18, of South Bishil area under Darus Salam Police Station in Dhaka.
According to the DNC, the operation was conducted based on a tip-off. Officials searched a white Toyota C-HR private car displaying a Home Affairs Ministry sticker and recovered 6,000 Yaba tablets from three parcels wrapped with tissue paper and adhesive tape.
The vehicle allegedly used to transport the drugs was seized. Four smartphones, the vehicle's fitness certificate and tax token were also confiscated during the operation.
Deputy Director of the DNC's Cox's Bazar district office, Somen Mondal, said DNC Inspector Mohammad Mizanur Rahman filed a regular case under the Narcotics Control Act with Ramu Police Station against the three suspects.
He said the use of a government ministry sticker to facilitate drug trafficking was "deeply concerning." Authorities are investigating whether others were involved in the racket and how the Home Affairs Ministry sticker was obtained.
However, Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said the suspects had not yet been handed over to the police station at the time of his statement.
