Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman inaugurated a tree campaign named ‘Bangladesh Army Tree Plantation Campaign 2026’ on Thursday (July 16).

The Army Chief launched the drive by planting a sapling at the Nirjhor Residential Area in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday morning.

Under the theme ‘We decorate the country with tree plantation, Bangladesh ahead of all,’ the army is planting various species of trees. These include fruit-bearing, timber, medicinal, and ornamental saplings. The trees are being planted across all cantonments, DOHS areas, and the Jolsiri Abashon project.

The environmental campaign will continue until the final week of September this year. Over 1.1 million saplings will be planted during this period.

The main objective of this initiative is to encourage everyone to spontaneously plant trees to boost forest resources and maintain ecological balance.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Army Chief noted that the military does not just plant trees but also ensures their proper care and preservation. He called tree plantation an eco-friendly program that improves the environment by securing the oxygen supply.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman urged citizens from all walks of life to join the tree plantation efforts.
