Two giant Baghair catfish sold for Tk 114,600 in Rajbari

Two giant baghair catfish caught in the Padma River at Daulatdia in Rajbari's Goalanda Upazila were sold for a combined Tk 114,600 on Thursday.

One of the fish, weighing about 32 kg, was caught by fisherman Nayan Halder near the Daulatdia ferry terminal. Local trader Shahjahan Sheikh bought it at auction for Tk 64,000 and later sold it for Tk 70,400.

The other, weighing around 26 kg, was caught by fisherman Tara Mondal on Wednesday evening. Shahjahan purchased it for Tk 41,600 and sold it for Tk 44,200.

Goalanda Upazila Fisheries Officer Anwarul Islam Pilot said the ongoing seasonal ban on hilsa fishing has helped other large species, including baghair, grow, resulting in increased catches.
