July Martyrs' Day, Feni honors uprising martyrs and injured warriors

July Martyrs' Day was observed in Feni through various programs with due solemnity. To mark the day, the Feni district administration organized a day-long program on Thursday, including placing wreaths at the July Monument and holding a discussion meeting.

The discussion meeting took place at the conference room of the Feni Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the afternoon. During the meeting, family members of the August 5 mass uprising martyrs were honored with flowers and crests.

Earlier at 10:00AM, the district administration, police administration, martyrs' families, uprising warriors, and representatives from various public and private offices paid tribute at the July Monument on Trunk Road. Leaders of different political parties and people from all walks of life also placed wreaths.

Feni DC Monira Haq presided over the discussion meeting. Feni Superintendent of Police (SP) Pratyush Kumar Majumder, Local Government Division Deputy Director Md Didarul Alam, and Acting Civil Surgeon Dr ASM Sohrab Al Hossain were present.

The event was also attended by Additional DC (General) Mohammad Al Amin Sarker, Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director Mohammad Atiq Ullah, and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sultana Nasrin Kanta. Family members of martyrs, including martyr Ishtiaq Ahmed Shrabon’s father Nesar Ahmed and martyr Saidul Islam Shahi’s elder brother Shahidul Islam, along with injured warriors, joined the meeting.

Among the political leaders, Feni District BNP Joint Convenor Gazi Habibullah Manik, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Feni District Ameer Maulana Mufti Abdul Hannan, and Sadar Upazila BNP Member Secretary Aman Uddin Kaysar Sabbir were present. District Jubo Dal Member Secretary Noim Ullah Chowdhury Borat and District Chhatra Dal President Salahuddin Mamun also attended.

Speaking at the event, SP Pratyush Kumar Majumder stated that 22 cases, including seven murder cases, have been filed regarding the July mass uprising in Feni. Charge sheets for three cases have already been submitted. He added that 1,200 individuals have been arrested so far, assuring that no perpetrator will escape justice.

In her presidential speech, DC Monira Haq announced that the authorities decided to cancel the firearms licenses of 24 accused individuals named in the submitted charge sheets. She noted that the government has formed a committee to review politically motivated harassment cases. Action will be taken based on the committee's evaluations, she added.
