July Martyrs’ Day Observed In Districts

Call for building a just, democratic, discrimination-free BD

July Martyrs’ Day was observed in all the districts of the country including Barishal, Feni, Khulna, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Noakhali, Panchagarh, Pirojpur and Tangail, on Thursday with the call for building a just, democratic and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

The Day commemorates the death of Abu Sayeed, the first protester killed during the July-August 2024 mass uprising. 

BARISHAL: The observance began at 10 am with the laying of wreaths at the July Memorial in Barishal. Officials from the district administration and representatives of various government offices paid tribute to the martyrs.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office at 11 am, with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mamun Khandaker in the chair. 

Speakers highlighted the significance of July Martyrs’ Day, recalling the sacrifices of the martyrs and the courage and contributions of those who took part in the July movement. They called on people to uphold the spirit of the martyrs’ sacrifice and work collectively for the country’s development.

FENI: On this occasion, a discussion meeting was held at the DC office conference room where the family members of the July Uprising martyrs were presented with flowers and honorary crests.

Earlier, different government and non-government organisations laid wreaths and paid tribute to the martyrs at the July Memorial on Trunk Road in Feni town.

Feni DC Monira Haque chaired the discussion meeting, which was attended by Feni Superintended of Police (SP) Pratyush Kumar Majumder, Local Government Department Deputy Director (DD) Md Didarul Alam, Acting CS Dr ASM Sohrab Al Hossain, Additional DC (General) Mohammad Al Amin Sarkar, DD of the Department of Agricultural Extension Mohammad Atiq Ullah, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sultana Nasreen Kanta, Nesar Ahmed, father of martyr Ishtiaq Ahmed Shraban, and martyr Saidul Islam Shahi's elder brother Shahidul Islam.

KHULNA: Marking the Day, family members of the July martyrs and participants in the July movement paid tribute by placing wreaths at the July Martyrs’ Memorial in Shibbari area of the city. Tributes were also placed by representatives of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Khulna district and city units, Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, Range DIG Md Mostafizur Rahman, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, DC Hoore Jannat, SP Mohammad Tajul Islam, Khulna WASA Chairman Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Chairman of Khulna Development Authority, officials of government departments and leaders of political parties.

A discussion meeting and prayer session was later held at the Khulna District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Speaking as the chief guest, Khulna-1 Constituency MP Amir Ejaz Khan said the government is implementing the commitments outlined in the July Charter and working in line with the public mandate. No democratic mass movement in Bangladesh had emerged overnight, adding that people took to the streets after enduring years of repression, harassment and anti-people activities.
Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun chaired the discussion.

MUNSHIGANJ: The Day began with the laying of wreaths at the July Memorial in front of the Flag 71 Sculpture located in Lichutola in the town. At that time, people from all walks of life paid deep tribute to the martyrs.

Wreaths were laid by Munshiganj-3 Constituency MP Md Kamruzzaman Ratan, DC Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, Zilla Parishad Administrator AKM Iradat Manu, SP Md Menhazul Alam, PPM, members of the martyrs' families and people from different classes and professions.

Later, a discussion meeting was held in the DC office conference room where the sacrifices of the July martyrs were remembered and their contributions were highlighted with respect. Along with this, everyone was called upon to work unitedly to build the country by embracing the ideals of the martyrs.

NARAYANGANJ: On the occasion of the July Martyrs' Day, the Narayanganj District Administration and the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) organised separate programmes. 

The district administration paid tribute to the martyrs at the July Memorial Monument in Hajiganj area of Fatullah on Thursday morning under the leadership of DC Md Raihan Kabir. At this time, Narayanganj-4 Constituency MP Abdullah Al Amin, SP Md Mizanur Rahman Munshi, Zilla Parishad Administrator Professor Mamun Mahmud, Chairman of Narayanganj Urban Development Authority Masukul Islam Rajib, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Mushiur Rahman, Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, Jamaat Central Working Council Member Mawlana Moinuddin Ahmed, Metropolitan Ameer Mawlana Abdul Jabbar, Fatullah Thana BNP President Shahidul Islam Titu and many others were present. 

On the occasion, the district administration organised a discussion meeting in the DC office conference room. Special prayers were offered in memory of the martyrs at various mosques, temples and religious places of worship in the afternoon. 

On the other hand, NCC Administrator Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan paid tribute to the July martyrs by placing wreaths at the July Memorial located in Hajiganj area of Fatullah in Narayanganj on Thursday morning. 

After placing wreaths at the July Memorial, a prayer was held for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs. NCC Acting Chief Executive Officer Nur Qutubul Alam, City BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu and many others were present. 

NOAKHALI: A discussion meeting chaired by DC Muhammad Shafiqul Islam was held at the DC office conference room to observe the July Martyrs' Day, organised by the district administration.
SP NM Nasiruddin was present as a special guest at the meeting.

The speakers emphasised the significance of the July Mass Uprising, the sacrifice of the July Martyrs and spreading their ideals among the new generation. At the same time, inspired by the July spirit, they called on everyone to play a responsible role in building a discrimination-free, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.

PANCHAGARH: On this occasion, the district administration initiated a wreath-laying ceremony at the July Memorial Pillar. It was attended by DC Mst Shukria Parveen, SP Abu Saim and others.

After the wreath-laying ceremony, a special prayer was held to seek forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs. At the same time, a minute’s silence was observed.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the DC office conference room where the speakers recalled with deep respect the contribution of the martyrs in the July Movement. They called on everyone to work unitedly to build the country by embracing their ideals and spirit.

Meanwhile, the 11-party alliance organised a mourning procession, discussion meeting and prayer session at the July Memorial Monument square on the occasion of the day. District Jamaat Ameer Professor Iqbal Hossain, NCP’s Shishir Asad, and Jagpa’s Kamal Hossain spoke at the meeting.

PIROJPUR: On the occasion of the Day, DC Abu Sayeed and his colleagues offered floral tributes at the monument on the Shaheed Minar premises in the town. Later, July fighters, SP Mohammed Monjur Ahmed Siddique, Zilla Parishad Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain, government officials and educational institutions’ heads offered floral tributes. 

A discussion meeting was held in the DC office conference room with DC Abu Sayeed in the chair. Among others, SP Mohammed Monjur Ahmed Siddique, Zilla Parishad Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain, District BNP Convener Md Nazrul Isalm Khan, Member Secretary SM Saidul Islam Kismat and District Jamaat Ameer Principal Tafajjal Hossain Farid were present.

TANGAIL: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku MP was the chief guest at the day’s programme organised by the district administration.

A discussion meeting, chaired by DC Sharifa Haque, was attended by Additional DC (General) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta, SP Md Shamsul Alam Sarkar, CS Dr Farazi Muhammad Mahbubul Alam Manju, among others.

In his speech, the chief guest said, “The nation will forever remember the sacrifices of the martyrs and the contributions of the injured in the July Movement with respect.”
