Banned AL leader arrested in Bauphal

ANM Jahangir Hossain (60) has been arrested on Thursday due to his association with an attack on BNP procession. He is a leader of the banned Awami League. He is also the former chairman of Daspara Union Parishad.

He was detained in front of the DB Police office in Patuakhali. DB Police OC Md. Mehedi Hasan has confirmed this arrest.

Sources said, Jahangir was the organizational secretary of the Bauphal upazila AL fraction, led by former mayor Ziaul Haque Jewel. Previously, he was with MP ASM Feroz's group. He switched sides during the AL regime.

DB police stated Jahangir was passing by their office around 7:30PM. Officers recognized him and made the arrest. He faces criminal charges at Bauphal Police Station.

Bauphal Police Station OC Sirajul Islam gave details regarding the case. He said, Joint General Secretary Al Mamun of Daspara Union BNP filed a lawsuit against him. The case involves a recent attack on a BNP rally. Jahangir Hossain has been declared as a prime accussed.

Process is underway to transfer him from the DB office to Bauphal Police Station.
