Kulaura police arrest 7 in separate raids, 4 online gamblers held

Police has detained seven persons, including a convict who was sentenced three years in prison, in separate drives in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar. Among them, four were caught red-handed while gambling online.

The drives were conducted in different areas of the upazila on Thursday night (July 16). Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Zohirul Islam Munna confirmed the matter.

Police arrested the convicted fugitive, Sohag Mia, from his residence in the Hingazia area from a tip-off. Moreover, two other warrant-running suspects, Almas mia and Md. Zubayer Ahmed Zuber, were also arrested during the raid. 

In a separate joint drive with RAB, police raided 'Mokbul Brothers Telecom' shop in the Robirbazar area of Prithimpassa union. Officers caught Mokbul Hossain, Babul Mia, Soyeb Ahmed, and Abdul Basit red-handed while they were gambling online. Police also seized online gambling equipment from the shop.

OC Munna said all seven arrestees were sent to court on Friday morning (July 17). He added that police drives will continue to curb crimes, arrest fugitives, and stop online gambling.
