Nabinagar Health Complex gets nod for 101-bed upgrade

NABINAGAR, B’BARIA, July 17: Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex in Brahmanbaria has received approval to be upgraded from a 50-bed complex to a 101-bed one, a move expected to significantly expand healthcare services in the upazila.

The expansion is expected to improve access to quality healthcare for local residents and reduce pressure on higher-level hospitals.
According to officials, the approval came after the issue was taken up with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) by Advocate Abdul Mannan, MP, for Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar).

A notification issued by the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said the government, with the prime minister's approval, has decided to upgrade 418 existing upazila health complexes across the country to 101-bed facilities. The decision also includes establishing 13 new 101-bed upazila health complexes in newly created upazilas.

The ministry has instructed the DGHS to prepare the necessary development projects and create the required manpower for implementing the initiative.

Advocate Abdul Mannan said he had pledged to work towards upgrading the hospital after visiting the facility and assessing its limitations.

"I promised the people of Nabinagar that I would make every effort to upgrade the 50-bed hospital to a 101-bed facility. I am pleased that the approval has now been granted. It fulfils a long-standing demand of local residents and one of my key election commitments," he said.

He added that the upgrade would not only increase the number of beds but also create opportunities to recruit additional physicians, specialist doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff.

The expanded facility will also be equipped with modern medical equipment and improved infrastructure, enabling residents to receive better treatment locally instead of travelling to the district headquarters or Dhaka for healthcare services, he said.
