Two persons, including a minor child, were killed after a microbus fell into a roadside ditch in Nilphamari's Kishoreganj early Saturday while returning with newly married couple.
At least 12 people were also injured in the accident that occurred at about 3AM on the Nilphamari-Rangpur regional highway.
The deceased were identified as seven-month-old Jibon Islam, son of Jikrul Islam, and Riad Islam, 20, an HSC examinee and son of Moja Miah.
According to local and police sources, Morsalin, son of Sirajul Islam of Kachukata Bandarpara area of Sadar upazila, got married to Sumaiya Akhter, daughter of Sharif Mia of Keshba village of Sadar Union of Kishoreganj upazila on Friday night. After the wedding at night, the groom and the bride were returning home in a microbus.
When they reached the Shaltibari area around 3AM, the microbus lost control and fell into a ditch. At least 14 people, including the bride and groom, were seriously injured. Later, locals rescued them and took them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared two of them dead. Twelve people have been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital with serious injuries in the incident.
