A Metropolitan Magistrate court on Tuesday granted bail to content creator Touhid Afridi in a fraud case filed with Wari Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after hearing a petition filed on behalf of Afridi, the son of MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi.
Defence lawyer Iqbal Mahmud Shovon said Afridi is facing three cases and had already secured bail in the other two from the High Court. With the latest order, there are no legal barriers to his release.
Afridi was shown arrested in the case on June 15.
According to the prosecution, an online fraud syndicate contacted the complainant via WhatsApp and Telegram on January 13, 2025, luring the victim with promises of employment and investment returns. The group allegedly gained the victim’s trust by initially returning small amounts before embezzling Tk 235,000.
The case was filed with Wari Police Station by Syeda Ashfah Toaha Dyuti against several unidentified individuals.
Afridi was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Barishal on August 24 last year and was later remanded in several cases linked to the anti-discrimination movement.
