The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested an alleged smuggler with 30kg of deer meat while it was being transported from the Sundarbans.
The information was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon.
According to the statement, Coast Guard personnel from the Nalian Outpost conducted a special operation in the Nalian Closure Para area of the Sundarbans after receiving a tip-off.
During the drive, they arrested Mehedi Hasan, 30, a resident of Dakop upazila in Khulna, while he was allegedly smuggling the deer meat.
The seized deer meat and the detainee were handed over to the Nalian Forest Patrol Outpost for further legal action.
The Coast Guard said such operations against wildlife poaching and smuggling will continue in the future.
