Landslide kills woman at Ukhiya

COX’S BAZAR, July 21: A young woman was killed and a three-year-old child was injured in a landslide at a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya Upazila of the district on Monday afternoon.

The deceased Bibi Hafsa, 18, was the daughter of Sami Ullah, a resident of D-5 block of Camp-8 East. The injured is Abdul Majid, son of Nur Islam of the same block.

Captain Riaz Uddin Ahmed, commander of the 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBN) in Ukhiya, confirmed the incident.

Quoting local residents, he said that following the landslide, Bibi Hafsa died on the spot and the child injured. He was later rescued and taken to the hospital.
