Dr Shariful appointed BUET Pro-VC

Government has appointed Prof Dr. Muhammad Shariful Islam as fourth Pro-Vice Chancellor (Pro-VC) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Wednesday. He succeeds Professor Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury.

A professor in BUET’s Department of Civil Engineering and Director of Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), Dr. Shariful earned his BSc in Civil Engineering from BUET in 1997 and joined the university as a lecturer the same year.

He obtained his PhD from Saitama University, Japan, in 2002 and later completed postdoctoral research there.

An internationally recognised researcher, he has authored more than 190 publications and received 29 national and international awards for his contributions to bioengineering, climate-resilient infrastructure, disaster-resilient housing, and sustainable construction materials.
