Ex-JCD leader hacked dead in Bogura; Woman detained

A woman has been taken into police custody for quizzing in connection with the incident.

The attack took place at around 2:30AM on Thursday in the Chalitabari area of Bogura Sadar upazila, according to Mahfuz Alam, investigation officer of Bogura Sadar Police Station.

The deceased was identified as Atikur Rahman Sagar Mondal, 26, son of Shahadat Mandal of Panchbaria village under Shakharia Uniona Sadar. He was a former convener of the Shakharia Union JCD.

According to family members and local residents, Sagar had been involved in a long-standing dispute with neighboring families. He had been living with his wife, Marzia Khatun, at his in-laws' house in Chalitabari village.

On Wednesday night, while family members were having dinner inside the house, Sagar was standing in the courtyard. Hearing a commotion outside, his wife came out and allegedly saw a group of 20 to 25 people, led by Sagar's cousin Jelhas, entred inside the house breaking the tin gate and attacked Sagar with sharp weapons.

As Sagar attempted to flee, he collapsed on the road. Locals later rescued him and took him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead.

Marzia Khatun, the victim's wife, alleged that the attackers threatened her when she screamed for help. 

The victim's mother, Sajeda Begum, alleged that her son was brutally killed and appealed to the government to ensure justice for the murder.
