Lawyers in Gopalganj have staged a protest rally demanding the removal and punishment of a judge who reportedly threw a paperweight during court proceedings, injuring the head of a female apprentice lawyer.
The lawyers brought out the protest rally on the court premises and several roads in the city around 10:30AM today, Thursday, July 23. Intense anger still prevails among the lawyers over such unexpected behavior from the judge.
After the demonstration, Advocates Habibur Rahman, Milon Sharif, and Rokeya Akhtar Rupa, among others, spoke at a brief gathering on the court premises.
The participating lawyers said a judge capable of such an incident has no right to conduct judicial activities here. They demanded the immediate removal and punishment of the judge.
Notably, on Wednesday, July 22, Judicial Magistrate Md Sujan Mia of Gopalganj Judicial Magistrate Court-2 threw a glass paperweight seeing lawyers and justice-seekers talking at the back of the courtroom bench during court hours.
The paperweight hit apprentice female lawyer Sabiha Sultana on the head, causing a deep cut. She was immediately admitted to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital for treatment.
