Unidentified elderly woman’s body recovered from Padma river bank in Kushtia

Police recovered the body of an unidentified elderly woman from a construction site near the Padma River in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Wednesday morning. The woman, believed to be around 65 years old, was reportedly mentally unstable and had been roaming in the area for a long time.
The body was recovered from a building under construction near Abed Ghat in Philipnagar Union of Daulatpur upazila, police said. The identity of the deceased could not be established immediately.
According to locals, the woman had been living in an unstable mental condition and frequently moved around Char Sadipur, Darogar Mor and areas near the Padma River in Philipnagar Union. She also used to spend nights in those areas.
On Wednesday morning, locals spotted her lying on the floor of the under-construction building and informed Daulatpur Police Station after suspecting something unusual. Police later recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman said the body of a mentally unstable elderly woman was recovered from the Padma River bank area and her identity was yet to be confirmed.
He said DNA samples would be collected and legal procedures would be completed before arranging her burial through Anjuman Mufidul Islam. The OC added that no signs of murder were found during the initial examination of the body, and police suspect she may have died due to age-related illness.
However, the actual cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report. A case has been filed with the police station in this regard.
