Minor drowns in Khulna pond

KHULNA, July 23: An eight-year-old class four student of Khulna Public College drowned while bathing in a pond beside Darus Salam Jame Mosque in the city’s C&B Colony on Thursday morning.

The deceased was Shahed Mahmud, son of a businessman Abdur Rahman and Laboni, an employee of UCBL Bank.

According to family members, Shahed left home saying he was going to take a bath in the nearby pond. Although he knew swimming, he drowned due to unknown reasons. His body was later found floating in the pond.

At the time of the incident, his father and elder brother Shaker Mahmud, a class 10 student of Khulna Public College, were at home.

His Namaj-e-Janaza was held after Asr prayers on the Darus Salam Jame Mosque premises, after which he would be buried at the Goalkhali graveyard in Khulna city.
