The 23rd Commonwealth Games officially opened in Glasgow, Scotland, with a colourful ceremony featuring nearly 3,000 athletes from 74 countries and territories, including Bangladesh.

Swimmer Samiul Islam Rafi carried Bangladesh’s flag during the athletes’ parade, while Sonia Akhter represented the country in the King’s Baton Relay.

Held at The Hydro Arena, the opening ceremony showcased Scotland’s history, culture and music through a blend of traditional and modern performances. One of the highlights was the arrival of King Charles III and Queen Camilla through the fictional TARDIS from the television series Doctor Who.

Following the raising of the Commonwealth flag and the Games oath, King Charles III officially declared the 23rd Commonwealth Games open.

The Games, being held in Scotland for the fourth time, will continue until August 2, with athletes competing for 215 gold medals across 10 sports and six para-sports.
