Govt appoints BNP leader Bulbul as BFIDC chairman

The government has appointed former Rajshahi mayor and BNP Central Committee Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul as chairman of the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) on a one-year contractual basis.

The appointment was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday. The ministry made a total of 12 contractual appointments to key government agencies, boards and corporations.

According to the notification, all appointments�"except that of the additional secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat�"are at Grade-2 level for a one-year term.

Among the other appointees, Md Salahuddin Sarkar has been named director general of the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation, Mohammad Rashedul Haque managing director of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL), and ATM Abdul Bari Danny chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).

The government also appointed Md Kamruzzaman (Dulal) as executive secretary of the Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council, Abdul Khalek as chairman of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation, Md Shamsuzzaman (Suruj) as chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation, Kazi Rawnakul Islam (Tipu) as managing director of the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust, Md Zakir Siddiqui as chairman of the Bangladesh Weaving Board, Benazir Ahmed as chairman of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Md Mamun Hasan as chairman of Bangladesh Jute Corporation, and Md Shamsul Alam as additional secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat.

The notification said the appointments will remain effective for one year from the date of joining. The appointees must relinquish any other professional, business or institutional affiliations before assuming office.
