Dhaka champions in girls' event

 
Dhaka Zone were crowned champions in the girls' cricket event of the Notun Kuri Sports after defeating Mymensingh Zone by 19 runs in the final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

Opting to bat first, Dhaka posted 48 for 4 before producing a disciplined bowling display to bundle out Mymensingh for just 29.

Captain Afnan Zaman Athoi led by example with an unbeaten 23 off only 11 deliveries, striking three fours and a six in a match-winning knock. Nusrat Jahan chipped in with the ball, claiming two wickets for 10 runs.

Mymensingh's chase never gathered momentum as wickets tumbled at regular intervals, including three run-outs. Riya Moni starred with the ball for Dhaka, returning figures of 2 for 8, and was deservedly named Player of the Match.

In the boys' final, Rajshahi Zone emerged champions after rain curtailed play, defeating Rangpur Zone by 19 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Rajshahi piled up an imposing 134 for 3 in their allotted 10 overs, thanks to a breathtaking innings from Sarafat Sadid. The tournament's standout performer hammered 74 off just 26 balls, smashing five fours and eight towering sixes. Tajbin Tasin Islam provided valuable support with a brisk 31 from 14 deliveries, including four sixes.

Rain interrupted Rangpur's chase, leaving them with a revised target of 47 runs from three overs. They managed only 27 for 3, handing Rajshahi the title by 19 runs under the DLS method.

For his explosive match-winning innings, Sarafat Sadid was named Player of the Final, capping a memorable campaign in style.
