Business, investment crucial for dev, employment: Mintoo

Feni, July 25: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, MP, has said that the country's development and employment generation will not be possible without business, trade and investment.

“If you provide people with the opportunity to conduct business and trade properly, employment opportunities will be created for unemployed young people, while educated and semi-educated people will also get jobs,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the oath-taking and induction ceremony of the newly elected members of the Feni Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday (July 25).

Abdul Awal Mintoo further said that if the country fails to create employment opportunities for unemployed young people, the number of people involved in terrorism and drug addiction will increase. 

This will create instability and disorder in the country and society, hampering the country's development and prosperity.

“Politics controls the economy. Therefore, political and social stability must be ensured to achieve economic prosperity. For this, everyone must fulfil their political and social responsibilities,” he said.

“Businesspeople must be given the opportunity to conduct business and trade. An investment-friendly environment must be created,” he added.

Feni-2 lawmaker and freedom fighter Professor Zainal Abedin Bhuiyan, reserved women’s seat lawmaker Rehana Akter Ranu, Feni Deputy Commissioner Monira Haque, Police Superintendent Pratyush Kumar Majumder, District Council Administrator Professor M A Khalek, Feni Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Harun-or-Rashid, Senior Vice-President Abul Kashem, Vice-President Farid Uddin Ahmed Pathan and Vice-President Zafar Uddin were present as special guests and guests at the event.

The programme was presided over by Mushfiqur Rahman Pipul, outgoing director of the Feni Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and conducted by Director Jalal Uddin Bablu.

At the beginning of the discussion, Feni Deputy Commissioner Monira Haque administered the oath of office to the newly elected members.

Earlier, 21 directors were elected to the Feni Chamber of Commerce and Industry on June 27 following a fiercely contested election.
