DMP urges landlords, tenants to update CIMS records

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged landlords, tenants and mess residents in the capital to register and update their information in the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) to strengthen public safety and improve technology-driven policing.

According to the DMP, the CIMS database currently contains records of about 3.67 million households and information on more than five million residents.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehedi said the initiative began in 2016 at Ramna Police Station, was expanded to all police stations in Dhaka in 2017, and a mobile app was introduced in 2019.

He said updated records help police with community policing, crime prevention, criminal investigations, locating missing persons, verifying the identities of suspects and responding more quickly during emergencies.

The DMP said CIMS registration forms are available at all police stations and outposts across the capital. Residents who move to a new address are required to register with the police station in their new area.

The system also allows landlords to verify the identities of prospective tenants, reducing the risk of providing shelter to criminals or fraudsters. Registered tenants can also receive police assistance more quickly when needed.

Mehedi added that the database has become an effective tool for investigations by helping police identify fugitives, verify suspect information and take prompt legal action, while also strengthening community policing and public trust.
