Padma Bridge ETC toll collection tops Tk100.8m; over 1,000 vehicles registered

Toll collection through the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system on the Padma Bridge has surpassed Tk100.8 million, while the number of registered vehicles has crossed 1,000, according to the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA).

The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Monday by the BBA's Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer, Md Masud Rana Shikder.

As of July 26, a total of Tk100,824,600 had been collected through the ETC system, while 1,008 vehicles had been registered. Since the service was launched, 56,406 vehicles have crossed the Padma Bridge using the cashless toll payment system.

The BBA said toll payments can be made through the D-Toll option in mobile financial service apps, including Tap, bKash, Nagad and Upay, as well as the mobile apps of Trust Bank, Midland Bank, NCC Bank, Prime Bank and Mutual Trust Bank.

To use the ETC service, motorists must register their vehicles through the D-Toll option, recharge their accounts and complete a one-time verification of the BRTA-approved RFID tag at the registration or toll booth at the Mawa Toll Plaza. Once the registration is completed, vehicles can use the ETC lane without requiring any additional RFID tag.

According to the BBA, several transport operators, including Imad Paribahan, Dola Paribahan, Sarbik Paribahan and Golden Line Paribahan, along with many commercial and private vehicle owners, are already using the service.

The authority said vehicles using the ETC lane do not need to stop at the toll plaza, allowing automatic toll payment while travelling at speeds of up to 60 km/h. The system is expected to reduce waiting time, traffic congestion, fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

The BBA also said efforts are underway to expand the cashless ETC system to other major bridges, expressways and tunnels across the country.
