Body of police SI recovered from pond in Gopalganj

Police recovered the body of a police officer from a pond in his in-laws’ area in Gopalganj under Paikkandi in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

Deceased police officer BM Mahmudul Islam, 38, was serving as a Sub-Inspector (Armed) at 6 APBn in Mahalchhari, Khagrachhari. He was the son of Haidar Ali Bhuiyan of Bijoypasha village in Sadar upazila.

On Monday, July 27, locals spotted the body floating in a pond near his in-laws' house and informed the police. Police arrived at the scene, recovered the body at around 8:30AM, and sent it to the morgue of Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital for an autopsy.

Police have detained the deceased's wife and father-in-law for questioning.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam confirmed the incident. He said the body was sent to the Gopalganj morgue for an autopsy. He added that the actual cause of death will be known after the autopsy report is received.
