Brigadier General Miftah Uddin Ahmed, a serving Bangladesh Army officer and former commander of RAB-7, has been taken into military custody over his alleged involvement in the 2018 killing of Teknaf municipality councillor Ekramul Haque.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the development on Monday, saying legal proceedings under the country’s existing laws are now underway.

Miftah previously served in the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and was among several former RAB officials sanctioned by the United States in 2021 over allegations of serious human rights abuses. The Ekramul killing drew widespread attention after audio recordings linked to the incident were circulated publicly.
