A Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee was injured by bullets after unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire in the Manikdi Amtala area under Cantonment Police Station in the capital early Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 12:15AM on Tuesday.
Injured Abdul Karim was rescued and initially taken to Kurmitola General Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment.
Karim's father, Md Rafiqul Islam, said his son was returning home after buying mosquito coils from a nearby shop. As he was talking to a friend named Tuhin in front of their house, two or three unidentified assailants suddenly opened fire indiscriminately.
Karim sustained two gunshot wounds to both legs before the attackers fled the scene, his father said.
He added, after receiving treatment at DMCH, Karim was discharged and taken home. However, the family has no information about the motive behind the shooting.
Confirming the incident, inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the student was brought to the hospital with bullets wounds below both knees. He added that the matter has been reported to the concerned police station for further investigation.
