Hasnat, Sarjis acted as agents of AL during July Uprising: PM’s aide

Prime Minister's Political Assistant Md Rashed Khan has alleged that National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam acted as "agents of Awami League" during the July Uprising, citing what he described as a leaked audio conversation involving NCP leader Hannan Masud.

Rashed made the allegations in a post published on his verified Facebook account on Tuesday.

Referring to the NCP's ongoing "July Padayatra", he questioned the party's political stance, alleging that although the programme was announced to commemorate the July martyrs and seek justice for the killings during the Awami League government, its leaders were instead directing their political rhetoric against the BNP.

"NCP launched the 'July Padayatra' to seek justice for the Awami League massacre and honour the martyrs. But its leaders are not talking about the trial of the Awami League. Instead, they are constantly threatening the fall of the BNP or another mass uprising against the BNP," he wrote.

Rashed claimed he had "understood the main secret" after listening to a leaked audio recording allegedly involving Hannan Masud.

"In that audio, Hannan Masud can be heard saying that Sarjis (Hasnat-Sarjis) would kill the leader of the movement," he alleged.

He further claimed that the audio suggested the two NCP leaders had worked in the interests of the Awami League during the mass uprising.

"They arrested Nahid, and now they are planning to arrest us. That means, according to Hannan Masud, Hasnat and Sarjis were working as agents of the Awami League during the mass uprising," Rashed wrote.

Questioning the pair's political role, he added: "Those who tried to save the Awami League at that time-will they now cooperate with the BNP government in rebuilding the state?"

Rashed also referred to the formation of the interim administration following the July movement, noting that NCP Convener Nahid Islam and spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan had served as student advisers.

"Nahid Islam was Coordinator No. 1 and Asif Mahmud was Coordinator No. 4, and both became advisers," he wrote.

He further claimed that although Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam were Coordinators No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, they were not appointed as advisers.

"I got the answer on the night of August 7. Before taking the oath as an adviser, he told me, 'Brother, Hasnat and Sarjis have betrayed the nation.' In other words, Hasnat and Sarjis could not become  advisers because of their disloyalty to the mass uprising, while Asif Mahmud became an adviser despite them," Rashed alleged.
