Charumoti returns to parents’ lap: Tiny fighter defies odds

A remarkable success of modern neonatal care, a premature baby who was born at just 26 weeks of gestation and weighing a mere 600 grams has returned home safely after nearly two months of treatment in Labaid Hospital in the capital.
The infant named Charumoti was the elder of twins born in Pabna. Her twin brother tragically died at birth.
Shortly after, Charumoti was admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Labaid Hospital. A dedicated team of neonatologists, nurses and healthcare staff oversaw her intensive care and thus, she returned to her mother’s lap safe and secured.
By the time of her discharge, Charumoti’s weight had reached 760 grams. Doctors noted that while she will require regular follow-ups and specialized medical monitoring in the coming days, her recovery marks a significant milestone.
To mark the occasion, Labaid Hospital organized a ceremony hosted by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ahmad Dawood.
The event featured addresses by Neonatology and Pediatrics Specialist Prof Dr Md Abdul Mannan, Pediatric Specialist Dr Ajmery Sultana Chowdhury, and Gynecologist Prof Dr Moriam Farooqui (Swati). Senior consultants, pediatric specialists, nurses, and hospital officials were also present.
Following a cake-cutting ceremony, the hospital presented gifts to Charumoti’s parents, who expressed their gratitude to the hospital authority and medical staff for their continuous care and support.
Charumoti also achieved a clinical milestone by becoming the first baby to receive care at Labaid Hospital’s newly established Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) unit. KMC is an internationally recognized treatment method that emphasizes prolonged skin-to-skin contact between mother and child, exclusive breastfeeding, and close clinical monitoring to boost survival rates in premature infants.
Medical experts at the hospital attributed Charumoti’s miraculous recovery to advanced neonatal care, dedicated medical management, and the perseverance of her parents.
