
Shakib Al Hasan delivered an impressive all-round performance as Jaffna Kings secured a 21-run victory over Kandy Royals in the Lanka Premier League on Thursday.
Batting first, Jaffna posted a formidable 220 for 6 after being invited to bat. Shakib remained unbeaten on 22 off 16 balls, while Chamindu Wickramasinghe blasted 43 from just 15 deliveries in a crucial 59-run stand. Another Bangladeshi, Towhid Hridoy, contributed 21 off 16 balls. Earlier, Kamil Mishara (36) and Avishka Fernando (49) gave Jaffna a solid start with a 95-run opening partnership.
In reply, Kandy were bowled out for 200, handing Jaffna their fifth win in seven matches.
Shakib starred with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 43 runs in four overs. He dismissed Lahiru Udara, Kusal Perera and captain Wanindu Hasaranga to put Kandy under pressure. Dimuth Wellalage also picked up three wickets, while Dilshan Madushanka and Zahoor Khan claimed two each.
Despite Shakib’s all-round display, Chamindu Wickramasinghe was named Player of the Match for his explosive 43-run knock.
