Man held with 12kg hemp in Noakhali

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a drug peddler along with 12 kg of hemp during a drive in Noakhali Sadar upazila.

Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) NM Nasiruddin confirmed the matter on Friday afternoon.

The raid was conducted in the Islamia Madrasa Intersection area along Sonapur Link Road under Ward No. eight of Noakhali Municipality on Thursday evening.

The arrestee was identified as Md Atikullah Atik, 55, son of late Samsuddin, hailing from the Jaliyal area under Ward No. nine of the municipality.

Police said a team from the DB, led by Sub-Inspector Md Nurul Alam, acted on a tip-off and detained Atik. Later, 12kg of hemp was recovered from his possession.

SP NM Nasiruddin said a case under the Narcotics Control Act is being filed against the arrestee with Sudharam Model Police Station, and he will be produced before the court under the case.
