Accused arrested over torturing schoolgirl and youth in Gopalganj

Main accused in the case of tying up and torturing a schoolgirl and a youth to a tree in Kashiani upazila, Nayan Goldar has been detained by Gopalganj police.

The arrestee is a former general secretary of the Hatiara Union unit BNP of Kashiani upazila.

Nayan Goldar was arrested on Sunday, August 2, during a drive in neighboring Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kashiani and Muksudpur Circle) Nafisur Rahman confirmed the matter. He said main accused Nayan Goldar fled the area after the incident.

Later, based on a tip-off, a team from Kashiani Police Station conducted an operation in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur. Nayan was detained during the drive and brought back to Gopalganj.

He further said police have already contacted the victim schoolgirl's family. They were advised to file a case.

Necessary legal action will be taken against those involved after the case is filed, the police officer added.

Previously, on Monday afternoon, July 28, allegations were made against Nayan Goldar as a schoolgirl and youth was tied to a tree and physically and mentally tortured at Rahuthar Udayan Bidyapith Higher Secondary School in Hatiara Union.

Video footage of the torture was recorded and spread on social media. The eighth-grade student could not bear the embarrassment and public shame and attempted suicide by drinking poison.
