A group of masked bandits descending from the hills placed a nail-embedded tree on the road to commit a daring robbery on a passenger bus in Damdamia Bridge 14 area on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway.

One person during this daylight robbery sustained bullet injuries, while robbers looted Tk 60 lakh from bKash employees onboard.

The incident took place around 1:45PM on Sunday, August 2.

Injured was identified as Md Arman, 24. Two others, Sakib, 21 and Ekram 22, were also injured. They are the dwellers of Teknaf municipality.

According to local sources, a bus of Palki Paribahan heading to Cox's Bazar from Teknaf was intercepted at gunpoint near Bridge 14.

Three sales representatives (SR) of bKash company were traveling on the bus with money intended for agents in Hnila and Huaiyang unions.

The victims stated that they had withdrawn the money from Shimanto Bank in Teknaf before boarding.

Locals said a team of Rohingya and local miscreants opened fire, leaving one person shot.

The robbers later fled into the hills upon sensing the arrival of law enforcement personnel.

Residents emphasized that an immediate joint administration drive could help arrest the bandits and recover the looted money.

Meanwhile, such a daylight robbery on the highway has raised fresh concerns over public safety.
Locals have demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and heightened security along the highway.

Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said police visited the scene immediately after receiving news of the robbery.

Teams from BGB, Coast Guard, and police are currently at the spot.

He added that a joint operation will be launched swiftly to take legal action against those involved.
