South Korean trade minister meets PM Tarique Rahman

South Korean Trade Minister Yeo Han-Koo paid a courtesy call on PM Tarique Rahman of the government. 

The meeting took place at the Cabinet Division in Bangladesh Secretariat at 2:30PM on Monday (August 3). 

In the meeting, Minister Yeo Han-Koo briefed the Bangladeshi PM on the pending Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries. He emphasized that agreement will significantly boost bilateral trade, economic cooperation and South Korean investment in Bangladesh. 

South Korean Minister further added that many South Korean companies are already operating successfully in Bangladesh, and many more are interested in investing in the future.

PM Tarique Rahman called upon South Korean companies to invest in Bangladesh's electronics, telecommunications, automobiles, semiconductors, and shipbuilding sectors.

He noted that South Korea possesses world-class expertise in shipbuilding, while Bangladesh has a potential workforce. South Korea can establish training centers in Bangladesh to develop skilled labor and provide language training for its shipbuilding industry.

He assured that the government will provide all necessary support if Korean companies invest in Bangladesh's shipbuilding sector.

Plans to organize an investment and business seminar with South Korean companies in Bangladesh were also highlighted during the meeting. Besides, the South Korean Trade Minister was informed about various steps taken by the government to ensure an investment-friendly environment.

In response, the South Korean Trade Minister stated that these initiatives and proposals from Bangladesh would further strengthen future relations between the two nations.

At one point in the meeting, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to the South Korean President to visit Bangladesh.

Minister of Commerce, Industry, Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, and Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Ashik Chowdhury, among other officials, were present at the meeting.
