A Dhaka court on Monday showed Sadiq Agro owner Imran Hossain, who drew nationwide attention in the "goat controversy," arrested in an attempted murder case linked to the July 2024 uprising.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order after hearing an application filed by the investigation officer of Mohammadpur Police Station.

Police had sought to show Imran arrested in the case on July 31, citing preliminary evidence of his alleged involvement. The court fixed Monday for the hearing in his presence. Following arguments from both sides, the court granted the application and ordered that he remain in jail.

According to the case statement, on Aug. 3, 2024, Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League and their affiliates allegedly attacked anti-discrimination protesters in the Bashila embankment, Bashila Bridge and nearby areas under Mohammadpur Police Station. During the attack, the assailants allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, leaving several people dead or injured. Victim Md. Soleman sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh.

Soleman later filed the attempted murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station against 35 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Imran was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on March 3, 2025 and was subsequently sent to jail the following day in a money laundering case involving the alleged laundering of Tk 1.33 billion. He has remained in custody since then.
