PM asks to install solar panels in govt bldgs 

 
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on the people to help build a clean Bangladesh and announced new steps to expand the use of renewable energy. He has also directed the installation of solar panels in important government buildings across the country in phases.

In a video message posted on his verified Facebook page on Monday, the Prime Minister urged people to throw waste only in designated places. He said public awareness is the key to making Bangladesh cleaner and more livable.

“If we all become aware from today and throw our waste in specific places, we can gradually make Bangladesh garbage-free. At the same time, we can build a beautiful and healthy environment,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the country belongs to everyone, and even small efforts by individuals can bring major positive changes. He urged citizens to help create a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations.

He said that 30 to 40 years ago, garbage was not commonly seen scattered along roads across the country. However, plastic waste, tissue paper, food packets and other rubbish can now be seen in cities, upazilas and rural areas.

The Prime Minister said people would never accept such a dirty environment around their own homes, yet many continue to pollute public places. He called on everyone to change this habit.

He also said that during his visits to different districts, he saw piles of garbage in many ponds and other water bodies. He noted that these places were once popular for family gatherings, but pollution has damaged their beauty.

The Prime Minister also urged people to keep parks and recreational areas clean by disposing of waste in proper places so that everyone can enjoy a healthier environment.

On the same day, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting on solar power at the Prime Minister's Office of the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat. During the meeting, he issued three major directives to address the energy crisis and increase the use of renewable energy.

Under his instructions, the government decided to install solar panels in important government buildings in phases, provide support for importing raw materials used to produce solar inverters, and prepare an effective financial model to make solar power more affordable and accessible for ordinary people.

According to the meeting's decisions, the first phase of the programme will include the installation of solar panels at Bangabhaban, the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the Prime Minister's Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, the Ministry of Finance building, the Planning Commission building and other important government offices.

The Prime Minister said the use of solar power in government buildings would encourage more people to adopt the technology. He said the government wants to lead by example in expanding renewable energy across the country.
