PML-N takes early lead in Azad Kashmir election

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the frontrunner in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly election, securing 23 seats in results announced after the second phase of voting.


According to Chief Election Commissioner (Retd.) Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won nine seats so far.


PML-N secured nine seats in Mirpur Division, four in Muzaffarabad Division and 10 seats reserved for refugees. PPP won four seats in Mirpur, three in Muzaffarabad and two refugee seats.


A party needs at least 27 seats in the 53-member assembly to form the government. However, results for two seats in Muzaffarabad and 11 seats in Poonch Division are still pending.


The second phase of voting concluded on Monday, with counting continuing in the remaining constituencies.
